Hosting Standards

Travelers need to get a sense of who you are and what your Adventures have to offer, before they'll feel comfortable requesting a reservation. Creating a detailed profile and accurate Adventure information will attract explorers and set their expectations.
Your Personal Profile
Your Local Guru profile is the first opportunity you have to introduce yourself to explorers and get them excited about exploring with you. Use a photo that clearly shows your face, share some details about the kind of exciting adventures you go on, be creative and express your love of fun.
Your Listing Information
Using high-quality photos and writing detailed description of the adventure increase the excitement of booking the adventure. Make clear what is and isn't included in the adventure.  If there are any necessary supplies be sure to list them. Some adventures will require rental gear for a first time explorer. It is also helpful to recommend any optional supplies. Be honest and candid about the unexpected factors that will impact your explorer's adventure, if there could be mountain lions on your hike, the explorer deserves to know, not just for their safety but as something look to possibly look forward too.
Pricing
Guests will evaluate the value of your adventure, so it's important to set a price that balances expectations with what your adventure has to offer. When you're setting your price, start by looking around to see what other charge for a similar adventure.  If you're a first-time Guru, consider lowering your price so that you can get that first booking, gain some experience.
Every time an adventurer reaches out—whether you have a booking with them or not—it's important that you respond quickly.Timely responses lets the explorer know that you’re an attentive and considerate Guru, but it's not the only thing that matters. Make sure you maintain a helpful and polite tone, and find opportunities to personalize your communication so that you can build trusting relationships with the Local Guru community. When an explorer has booked an adventure, you should communicate with your explorer shortly before their the set time. Also ensure they know how to reach you, and see if there’s anything you can do to help make their preparations easier. And of course, if something about your listing has changed since the time you confirmed a booking, communicate it in advance. For instance, if a park is closed on the day you were going to hike it, the explorer should know.
If the unexpected happens and you can't avoid canceling a confirmed booking, follow these guidelines:
As soon as you understand that you have to cancel, let your explorer know right away. This will give them as much time as possible to explore other adventures.
Be empathetic when you tell your explorers that you need to cancel, and do it with a kind, thoughtful tone. You'll need to cancel the reservation within Local Guru to initiate the refund process.
If you know other Gurus in your area, consider recommending one of their adventures.
Leaving a review for your explorer is a chance to show your gratitude and provide helpful feedback. Because they're public, your reviews help other Gurus know what to expect when they receive a booking an explorer who has booked with you before. Similarly, when you receive a review, it's your opportunity to use your explorer's feedback to make improvements to your adventure and continue doing awesome things. You have 14 days to complete your review after an adventure has ended.
If you have constructive feedback for a explorer, give them guidance either in your review or in private feedback. Be sure to address sensitive feedback with kindness and professionalism. When possible, include concrete examples of the behaviors they can change. Particularly for explorers who are new to Local Guru, your feedback will help them become expert explorers.
